Casa Lulá’ is a project conceived as a fusion of the monumental and pyramidal architecture of Monte Albán in Oaxaca, Mexico and the central cloisters or patios of Oaxacan architecture。 The project is a great ruin or rock that flows and emerges in the landscape forming various architectural elements until the very architecture of the house is generated。 The distribution of the house is maximized thanks to its position in the property, showing us four triangles on each corner generating gardens and a service space。

The social and private spaces are separated by a central cloister, becoming a transition zone for the house, where the user lives through the space and where the placement of a hammock invites you to contemplate the sky and the stars, also functioning as a large sun clock。 Thanks to the position of the shadow, the user can identify time during the coarse of the day。 The surface of the cloister with its circular shape and stone material reminds us of a Tahona Chilena mill, where the agaves are crushed for the elaboration of mezcal in Mexico。

The central and circular cloister is presented to us on almost the entire journey, and it amazes us in two different moments: when you are looking from underneath lying in the hammock and from above standing near the spiral railing where the hammock becomes an object now to contemplate。

The pyramidal geometry of one of its vertices responds to endless uses, from serving as stairs to go to the upper terrace, offering the possibility of generating gardeners, rest spaces or as an outdoor cinema。 Inside, it responds as an element of storage, where it gives us the possibility of having bookshelves and other objects。

The pyramid step hides from the entrance, but it is discovered when the user ventures through the course of the house。  The project reflects Oaxacan past and mexican habits in a physical and tangible architecture。 LULÁ’ means OAXACA in Zapotec, a native language of the state of Oaxaca, spoken by Zapoteca culture during Mesoamerican civilization。
